Encounter
How often
Have we gazed
This heron and I
One upon the other
Across this lake
Its lapping waters
Buttery ripples
In soft pre-dawn light
A glance —a nod—
Acknowledgement
Passes between us
One to another
Across this divide
Its subtle depths
Richly warm
Companionate delight
Something satisfied moves on
The moment wanes
We part fondly
Setting off, each upon our own way.
